A magic that's fading
Relian has lived a life that hasn’t changed in millennia, and he likes it that way. As Prince of the Erian people, he has his conscripted duties. And a human, even one as desirable as Cal, does not fit into them. But as the enemy darkindred knock on the borders and the magic of his people fades, he might just have to find room.

A love that's binding
College student Cal Weston spends a good portion of her time trying to keep people from thinking she's crazy, including herself. And with good reason. But her carefully constructed reality is turned upside down when she discovers that Relian, the seductive elvin prince who has been starring in her sensuous fantasies, isn’t merely a myth and his magical kingdom really exists. Now she’s bound to an elf and stuck in a land where no one, least of all Relian, is willing to spill any answers about the truth of her arrival.

Two people, two worlds meet in the mist
Even as love grows between them, can they lay aside their differences to embrace a life together?

Happy Hopping!

Featured Author Casea Major--Night with a Dom

Please welcome Casea Major as this week's featured author. She's gearing up for the release of her erotic short story, Night with a Dom. This will be her second story that's set in Decadent Publishing's successful 1NS series.

On New Year's Eve workaholic Melody Manning is informed by her ex he's getting married. Devastated by the news, she blames the slave-driver tactics of her former boss for her break up.

To release the heartbreak and provide herself with some much needed stress relief, she enlists the help of an exclusive matching agency specializing in one-night stands.

At the Castillo Resort and Winery in Sonoma Valley, Mel meets the mysterious Dom who has agreed to the last minute rendezvous. The sexy masked Master promises to get to the bottom of Mel's guilt and provide ultimate satisfaction under the safety of his stern hand.

After an emotional night of submission and uninhibited passion, will her lover's unmasking lead to the end of their encounter or give Mel another chance at love?

Mel sucked in a breath, and opened the door. The darkened room flickered with the light of at least a dozen candles. She squinted as she walked in. The smell of incense and roses wafted in the air. Her sight adjusted, and the darker shadows of the space became visible. She scanned the scene.
In the middle of the room sat an oversized bed covered in black velvet and satin. Her arms and legs quivered. A roughly made wooden table stood with two straight-backed chairs in the corner, and a tray of appetizing food awaited.
She stood frozen, anticipating his appearance. Her heart thumped in her chest. Was he hiding? She began to turn—
“Do not turn around, Miss Manning.” His voice whispered against her ear.
She jumped at the husky sound, but didn’t try to move away.
He ran his hands across her shoulders and trailed his fingers down her bare arms. “Are you frightened, kitten?”
Her skin tingled at his simple, but intimate touch. The heat from his massive body radiated against her back though he never made contact with it. Although she couldn’t see him, his presence filled the room, and the walls seemed to shrink at his closeness. “I’m a little scared. I’ve never done anything like this before, but I guess you do—”
His finger glided up her shoulder to press against her lips and his whispered rebuke filled her ear. “Silence.”
Her eyes fluttered closed. Pleasure and fear mingled in her mind and over her skin. She wanted so bad to turn her head and look at him, but somehow she knew she shouldn't.
The spicy masculine scent of him filled the air, and his moist, heavy breath sent waves of heat  down her neck. “During this portion of the evening you will only speak when asked a direct question, and you will address me as ‘Sir’. Understand?”
Concentrating on his words, she had to strain to hear him over her pounding heart but nodded. In the dim light of the candles, her chest rose and fell rapidly. Excitement and fear zinged to her extremities and every place in between.
“There’s nothing to be frightened of.”
He trailed his tongue from her earlobe down to her nape. She gasped and tensed her shoulders as he nipped and sucked the sensitive skin. Goosebumps covered her from head to toe. Her nipples hardened and throbbed. The mystery of him enticed her as much as his touch and scent.
He swept his hand slowly over her stomach. She melted back against him, the heat of his body wrapping around hers, instant, carnal and very real. Throbbing need pulsed between her legs, replacing the chill of fear.
“I’m going to remove your dress.”
“Okay.” The word whooshed from her. Dizziness caused her to sway. Is this really happening? His velvet baritone held a familiar lilt she couldn’t place, but surely if she’d heard that sexy sound before, she’d remember. Right now she was so aroused, it could be her high school boyfriend and she wouldn't know—or care.
“Okay, what?”
Her body tensed at his rebuke. “Okay, Sir.”
“You have enough discipline coming this evening for past transgressions, Miss Manning. Let’s not complicate matters by increasing their number. All right?”
“All right, Sir.” She sucked in a breath at the mention of punishment. What would he do to her? She had stipulated mild discipline, but what did that mean to him?
He moved his hands from her abs upward, smoothing his palms across her breasts, grazing her nipples with every finger as he passed over the fabric of her dress. A long, hot breath blew from her lips, and liquid desire gushed between her legs.
He trailed his fingers to her back and unzipped the dress, allowing it to fall to the floor with a whisper. The cool air of the room played across her bare skin. The vulnerability of her position built a pressure in her stomach not unlike the apprehension she suffered before her yearly employment evaluation.
Pulling her back against his bare chest, his arms slipped around her waist. His hands splayed across her flesh and grazed the lace of her bra. His touch scorched her skin and desire for more flooded her. She ran her hand over his forearms. The fine masculine hair stood at her touch, and he sighed into her ear.

A Deleted Scene

Hi! Over the nest few weeks, I thought I'd share some deleted scenes from Bound by the Mist. These scenes were either removed from the story entirely, condensed, or rewritten from a different character's POV.

The one I'm posting today is from Relian's POV. He's an elvin prince who's been haunted by dreams of  a woman--and not just any woman, but a human woman! Now she's arrived in his land and he doesn't quite know what what to do.

As Relian's shock encased him in stone, he knew without a doubt who and what it was, even though he couldn’t see the figures clearly.  It was Cal.  It had to be.  Who was the other person, though?  Maybe the friend he had seen with her?  Now his sense of something momentous happening made sense.  He’d experienced a forewarning of her arrival.  Ecstasy and agitation coursed through him at the thought of her in his world
Once the veil faded enough for elvish sight to see clearly, the strange figures came into view.  Standing before them all -- before him -- were two human women who looked around in bafflement.  Just like he, the gathering looked on with stunned astonishment.  While his father made his binding to a human quite clear, apparently no one had actually expected her arrival after said announcement.
The king recovered first.  He grasped Relian’s shoulder.  “It seems the veil has taken the problem of her arrival out of our hands.”
Relian nodded.  He had yet to take his eyes off Cal and couldn’t form coherent words.  Once he overcame his trance, he and his father glanced at each other knowingly.
He leaned toward his father.  This demonstration of the veil has made our task of gaining acceptance for the binding quite easy.  This was beyond even what we could have hoped for when we started this endeavor.”
A smile played over his father’s lips.  “Indeed, the veil could not have chosen a more fortuitous time.  None can gainsay that the veil has not been involved, that it is merely evil at play.”
Relian surprisingly felt lighter than he had before the veil appeared.  Now the number of people speaking out against the match should be few, if any.  At least overtly, he hoped.

Drop by Tabby's Nocturnal Nights

I'm over at Tabby's Nocturnal Nights today, talking about what I consider to be a writer's best friend. Drop by if you have a chance! It's a short post:)

Featured Author Aine P Massie (Blood's Voice--Book One of the House Millar series)

Aine P Massie is my featured author this Thursday! She's the writer of the House Millar series. Read on to find out about Blood's Voice, the first book in the series.

Blood’s Voice
(Book One of the House Millar series)
by Áine P Massie

Anya Millar had no memory of her life or an instruction manual on how to navigate the insane world of humans, biting, and reality. Instead, Anya has had to learn to navigate the world of love, life, and sanity while avoiding those that would see her dead or enslaved.

This is the ongoing journey of Anya and Nicholas, human loving vampires and the human they love, Declán. What makes it all more complicated is that they are abominations in their own world and Declán is a natural born vampire hunter called a Guardian.

Anya must come to terms with who she is and her missing past, Nicholas must win back the object of his eternal love while dealing with new cravings in his silent heart, and Declán must learn to destroy the very creatures that he has unequivocally given his heart and blood.

I spent a long time mingling and observing the humans. They are always so interesting to watch, especially when excited. I turned the corner to head to the larger dance floor when I notice Declán talking to a girl I had never seen before. This would not have bothered me except that at the same moment I saw her I also caught her scent. Not human! Not wanting to cause a scene and draw unneeded attention to what I am, I chose to – against my better judgment – head over without calling to Nicholas or Declán.

“Ah, ah, ah, I wouldn’t do that if I be you,” the strange female streamed, where I could hear but he never could have.

“Get away from him,” I growled in return. She moved away a little but relatively stayed her ground. Moving in to wrap one arm around his waist, I pulled him behind me. “You are not welcome here and especially not near this one!” I was so furious I was vibrating slightly.

“A new pet,” she purred. “You’ve always been such a strange little creature, haven’t you? We just be talking.” She looked amused, maybe she did not understand the danger she was facing. “Weren’t we pet?”

“Mmmm, yesh ma’am,” Declán slurred. “Is okay Anya, we weres just talkin’.” Glancing back just enough to see his face I suddenly became aware of two things; first, he was dazed looking and secondly, he had two small wounds on the left side of his neck.

“You bit him?” I could hear the others converging on our position now. “You will never bite anyone ever again!” I growled. I could feel myself losing control; I needed to get Declán away, quickly.

Shifting into a half crouch, I felt Nicholas slide in beside me doing the same. “Geoff, Peony, take Declán, now, and get him out of here.”

Nicholas put a restraining hand on my arm, “Not here. Out back."

Fine. “We three will go out back to talk,” I commanded. “Bog leat soith!” I snarled at the female. I could hear Nicholas sigh but did not have time to find out why right then.

‘She’ moved gracefully toward the back door without a pause. Her eyes kept the unfocused glaze my voice often caused even as she turned to face us once in the alley. “This be totally unnecessary. I wouldn’t kill your pet.” I could feel my teeth descend without conscious command as I continued to growl; she finally appeared troubled.

“Why are you here?” snapped Nicholas.

“I be sent to observe her,” she said twitching her chin at me. “I just wanted to know more about her.”

“She bit Declán, Nicholas,” I hissed.

“It just be easier for me to enter their mind and memories that way,” she answered. “It won’t damage him, don’t stress so child.”

“You are dead, do you hear me.”

Lights started flashing around me for a moment and then I was no longer in the alley. Where am I? Looking around, I was in a strange octagonal room. I could feel panic and fear within but with a sort of residual, not quite real sensation. Walls, ceiling, and floors were all a rough silvery metal. I was restrained to the wall at my wrists, chest, waist, and ankles; there was also some kind of strange gag in my mouth.

The gag was not painful but it had a protrusion that made it where my teeth were locked in one position. I could smell blood, fresh human blood but could see no one but the same strange woman I was just growling at; she was standing in front of me sneering. The only sound, other than our breathing was when she spoke. “You really should be more cooperative child. It wouldn’t be so painful if you just behaved better.” Searing pain and light. . .

Áine P Massie is originally from Florida, she now lives in Wisconsin where she works on her House Millar series full time while raising four children (the term herding cats comes to mind). Her major in College was Childhood Education (0-5) with a minor study in Deaf Culture/ASL. She is also a Wiccan priestess dedicated to the gods, family, and love.

A lifelong reader, Áine has always had a particular fascination with vampires, mythology, and the unusual. When she can escape from her children and books, she enjoys . . . oh yes, reading, playing, ritual, a good cappuccino, and working with her healing stones.

Her first published work came in high school where she was part of a writing and drama group. But, she’s been reading the likes of Shakespeare and Poe since late elementary school and enjoys most forms of fiction. Blood’s Voice has been a long time in coming and with its publication (June 2011) Áine embarked on a new chapter in her life.

Featured Author Carrie Ann Ryan--A Taste for a Mate

Please welcome Carrie Ann Ryan! She's the author of the popular Redwood Pack series. Read on to find out about her latest release,  A Taste for a Mate.

A Taste for a Mate Blurb

Jasper Jamenson’s only responsibility to being the Beta of the Redwood Pack, second son of the Alpha, is to protect the Pack from themselves and the human world. After a century of selfless service, his brother’s new found mating forced him into taking a good look into his life. He isn’t sure he wants a mate, but fate may have other ideas.

Willow Delton is a skinny, bakery owner – the type most woman love to hate. Being without family, she finds herself alone to the Greek god with green eyes who saunters into her bakery every morning. Her desire to follow him, to be with him, overrides every rational sense she possessed.

Jasper and Willow are drawn together, despite every nuisance that works against them. But evil beyond even Jasper’s supernatural compensation will make war against him, by going after the only thing in his eternal life he desires – Willow. Is Willow’s heart enough to overcome Jasper’s soul to save her life? A fight he cannot win, but to save her life – he must.

Jasper Jamenson fought himself as he walked into the bakery that morning. This would be the seventh week in a row in which he came here every day but Sunday. And that was only because the damn store was closed. As good as the cinnamon rolls were, and they were little tastes of heaven, it was the woman behind the counter that brought him there every morning.
Following a particularly bad night in the forest on a hunt Jasper was pissed and hungry. Another wolf tried to play a dominant game, forcing Jasper to hurt him. The stench of other’s defeat remained on him, only angering Jasper just that much more. The scent of the morning’s freshly baked goods pulled him through the quaint and welcoming door while the slender goddess who served him brought thoughts of a different form of servicing to mind.
Slightly above average in height, he would guess about five foot seven; she was the perfect height to settle against his body. For someone who owned and operated a bakery she was as skinny as a rail. However, if he looked close enough he could see the telltale signs curves. He knew that just a little bit of his help and pampering she would gain well-needed cushion but no matter what, she would look amazing underneath him. Long, light brown hair was constantly in a bun on the top of her head. His fingers ached to pull out the pins and watch it tumble down her back. Hazel eyes sought him and begged for his protection. Damn, he was willing.

Carrie Ann Ryan is a paranormal and contemporary romance author. After spending too much time behind a lab bench, she decided to dive into the romance world and find her werewolf mate - even if its just in her books. Happy endings are always near - even if you have to get over the challenges of falling in love first.
Her first book, An Alpha's Path, is the first in her Redwood Pack series. She's also an avid reader and lover of romance and fiction novels. She love meeting new authors and new worlds. Any recommendations you have are appreciated. Carrie Ann lives in New England with her husband and two kittens.

Featured Author Casea Major--One Knight in Brooklyn

The author I'm featuring today is a good friend and critique partner of mine--Casea Major. We're sharing her latest release, which I have to say is a fun, sexy short full of adventure and romance. If you want to be swept away for an hour, pick up this tale!

After signing up for a one-night stand through an exclusive matching agency, hopeless romantic Marianne Caldwell is swept away to a medieval land where she hopes to spend the night with a worthy man of

Unsure of how she got from the Castillo Hotel in Las Vegas to a castle in the English countryside, Mare finds Robert, whose stunning physique and winning smile immediately convince her he's the Robin Hood she's been seeking.  But despite his efforts in saving her from a corrupt sheriff, his Jersey Shore accent and coarse ways unravel her romantic visions.

With her fairytale fantasies coming unhinged, Mare must decide if Robert is just a crass car salesman from Brooklyn or the chivalrous knight she's looking for.

One Knight in Brooklyn Excerpt:

“Well, Dallas, what did a pretty gal like you expect from this deal?”

There was no way in hell she would answer that question. So she employed her stellar skills of diversion and subterfuge. “What did a guy like you expect from this deal?” Okay, maybe not the cleverest line she’d ever come up with, but this guy with his mesmerizing eyes messed up her mojo.

He leaned back with his elbow on the mattress and flashed a brilliant smile. She swallowed hard. “To get to know a lovely young woman such as yourself and have a little adventure. You think you can handle that?”

Could he be any more cocky? His thinly veiled innuendo struck her with the delicacy of a baseball bat. No question he was hot. From a purely physical standpoint, he was perfection, but did anything rattle around behind those blue eyes?
She crossed her arms over her chest and tilted her chin. “What I want to know is, can you handle that?”
Oops, she hadn’t meant for that to sound like a challenge or an invitation, but even to her own ears, it did. He stood, his long legs closing the distance between them in two strides. She braced her legs to hold her ground, but retreated toward a wall. So much for holding my ground. Pressing her head back against a branch, she looked up into his even stare. God, his eyes were Ceylon blue, his lips full and lush. He stopped in front of her, but continued to lower his head toward hers. Other than the rustling wind, only her ragged breathing sounded amongst the leaves.
Robert braced his hands on either side of her shoulders, effectively trapping her between him and the tree. Every cell in her body buzzed with electrical current, and her gaze helplessly transfixed on him. The lids of his eyes lowered, and his straight nose brushed against hers.
“Can I kiss you?” His whispered request tickled her skin.
Chills swept over her heated body. Her knees gave way, and she sighed out some inaudible response he apparently took as affirmative. He brushed her lips with a kiss.
With agonizing leisure, his mouth eased over hers, first feathering her closed lips then caressing each one between his. His velvety flesh wisped like flower petals against hers, and the aroma of fresh mint scented his breath. The languid motion of his kiss ignited a desire that throbbed all the way down between her legs. The longer he lingered, the hotter she burned. He never sped his pace or reached for her in any other way. It was only a kiss, yet so much more.
His warm tongue slipped between her lips and slowly explored her mouth, sliding across her teeth and stroking her tongue. A soft moan escaped her and excruciating tension built in her core with each lazy thrust.
She wrapped her arms around his waist and trailed her fingers down his hips as she molded to his body. He gasped and ended the kiss. The staggering length of his arousal pressed into her abs and the burn in her sex flared into a raging inferno.
He rested his forehead against the tree, and she laid her hands on his chest with his body lightly molded to hers. The heat radiating between them smoldered hotter than the Vegas asphalt at high noon. His breaths were steady, but his heart pounded against her open palms.
His voice, deep and husky, sounded near her ear. “Maybe. Maybe not, Dallas.”
She opened her eyes. “Huh?”
He kept his eyes closed and rubbed his cheek against hers. “I was just answering your earlier question.”
She couldn’t remember the question. She'd be lucky to remember her own name.

Featured Author Brenda Dyer--Love's Prophecy

This is my first Featured Author post! Every few days I hope to share some basic info (author bio, latest book, blurb, etc.) on a new and upcoming author here on my blog. Though the posts will appear on my Home page, you can find all the authors I spotlight in alphabetical order on the Featured Author page in the menu top.

Now on to my first Featured Author, Brenda Dyer! I'm reading her release, Love's Prophecy, right now. So far it's awesome! If you love the paranormal genre, hot vampires, and spicy romance, this book is a definite must-not-miss!

Love's Prophecy

Dark warriors of might...

Mel is a vampire warrior sworn to hunt and kill demons in the dark streets of Vancouver. But he's burdened with a new assignment: find the meaning behind the Vampire Prophecy. Having no faith in the gods and their empty words, he believes there's no truth to the ancient legend until he meets Breeana, a human woman who bears the mark of the prophecy and resembles the mysterious woman haunting his dreams. When a vengeful demon spies Breeana in his arms, she is marked for death. He must take her from the world she knows until he can eliminate the threat. But the real danger is the role Breeana must play in fulfilling the prophecy and the intense feelings she brings out in him. Mel is forced to choose between his obligations to his kind, the world, and the woman he loves. Does he have the courage to let the one woman who could heal his wounded heart and soul go, or will he risk her life and bind her to him for all eternity?

Small warriors of light...

Veterinarian, Dr. Breeana Spencer yearns for love and companionship, but the disappointment of failed relationships has left her bitter. She now finds solace in romance novels. But when she meets a mysterious stranger, she's drawn to him by a connection so forceful it shatters all reason, leaving her incapable of resisting him. Yet there's more to him than smoldering good looks and a rock-hard body. As she's drawn deeper into his danger-filled world, she learns she's part of an ancient vampire legend. Breeana fears her future is no longer hers and will not include Mel. As their enemies close in, desperate to destroy them both, she must fight to convince Mel her place is at his side. A  life-altering choice is before her—one that will take all her courage and love to make.

Breeana stared at Mel, appalled by his words. The gardens—the beauty of the evening—forgotten.

He cleared his throat. “The first memory I had as a child was of my father dragging me from the slave dungeon and locking me in the killing cage.”

She jerked back. His arm slid from around her shoulders. “The what?”

His eyelids lowered as he looked at the grass. “It was an iron box suspended outside from the top of the castle by a chain. The front had narrow slits, just wide enough to allow the morning sun to shine in. He used the cage to punish his slaves or his soldiers, hell, sometimes just for sport.”

“Oh my God!”

Mel's gaze drifted out over the yard. The look on his face told her he no longer saw the gardens or smelled the perfume scented air. His mind must have drifted back hundreds of years, reliving what sounded like a horrific nightmare.

“When I realized what he was about to do, I panicked. I fought back but I was young, maybe four or five. My arm snapped as he shoved me inside but I didn't feel the pain, it paled in comparison to the terror I felt when I heard the lock click.”

His eyes filled with terror and bounced around like the eyes of a trapped, frightened animal. “I knew what was coming. I'd heard the screams of others who had burned alive.” He swallowed. A trickle of sweat coursed down his temple. “I clawed at the bars, pleaded with my father, but he just laughed. The look in his eyes was pure hatred.”

His words chilled her to the bone. Nausea churned her stomach.

“I tried to sift—disappear—but vampires can't sift through metal or rock, and the spaces between the bars were too narrow. I was trapped. I…I continued begging my father to release me. Then as the first rays touched my skin, just when the pain began, he ordered his soldiers to pull the cage back in.”

Numbness spread through her. She opened her mouth, but shut it. What did you say to someone who had lived through such a traumatic experience?

“That was the first, but not the last time he locked me in,” he said in a flat tone. “Each time he pulled me back in. I don't know why he didn't end it there.”
